Deerlodge Road Bank Stabilization Project

Dinosaur National Monument, CO

Elite Surface Infrastructure was the General Contractor for this project which ranged in location throughout Dinosaur National Monument. Dinosaur National Monument is located from Vernal, Utah all the way east to Maybell, Colorado. The approximate distance from one end to the other is 100 miles.

The first part of the work on this project was re-establishing an intersection at the main visitor’s center in Utah.  This included the demolition of existing roadway into the visitor’s center.  Maintain flow of traffic to the visitor’s center during construction.  Asphalt pavement on new road re-alignment, fine grading, signs and striping.  This portion of the work was completed in two weeks.

The next part of the work was located in Colorado along the Yampa River and the damage was caused by the scouring of the river moving closer to existing parking areas.  This included removing concrete and asphalt debris out of the Yampa River, demolition of existing parking lots, re-establishing new parking lots, and erosion control and seeding.  This portion of the work was completed in 1 month.

The last portion of the work was along and in the Yampa River off Deerlodge Road in Colorado.  The work was performed due to scouring from the Yampa River and getting too close to the existing road.  This work included over 40,000 cubic yards of excavation, over 40,000 Cubic yards of embankment and 10,000 Cubic yards of class 8 rip rap.  Over 65% of the work was completed in the Yampa River.  In order to complete this work in the river a dam was built around the work area.   This portion of the work included a metal frame dam and liners to keep out water and 24hrs, 7 days a week dewatering process.  The process of the embankment was excavating below the river level then bringing it back up with class 8 rip rap.  After the rip rap was placed it was backfilled with excavated material.  After the embankment and backfill was completed, the site was fine graded and seeded.  This portion of the work was completed in 3 months.
